An excerp of "On Children" by Kahlil Gibran.
These stanzas are the parts of his poem I love the most. I love my parents to death, don't get me wrong... This is not a rant post but there are days where I feel like I'm being controlled. I've always believed they were put in that position by God to help and not dictate. Honestly, I am jealous of how things work here in America. Most Filipino families are so full of conservative traditions that I feel like there's no room to grow as an individual. It may just be my parents since I am an only child and the level of attention and concern has a high concentration, but one way or another, there will be that day that my room in their house will permanently be empty. |
