I've read somewhere that shooting in .NEF (raw) feels like you're shooting using film. Not that I know anything about developing films except that they're done in dark rooms as to not ruin exposure.
After owning an entry-level DSLR for almost 4 years now, I just found out recently that my camera allows .nef shooting. Yes, I'm that ignorant. So I've tried shooting RAW then having it developed and edited using Lightroom.

It [before photo] actually does look like a film no, with the color circles and all? I like the exposure, vibrance and clarity editing capabilities that RAW files allow. I've had many issues with jpeg editing with it being to constricting and sometimes, the after-edit ruins the photo altogether. I'm definitely using RAW (.nef in Nikon cameras) to shoot stuff I'd want to enhance or preserve. But I'm still sticking to JPEG since the file size is more reasonable.
