Niagara Falls Day 1
HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY (belated). We went to Niagara Falls last weekend and it was such an awesome adventure. Here's a sneak peak of what happened... you should watch out for "Day 2" post cause that's when the fun started.
But first, say hello to my road trip buddy,
You'd mistake this area for India. I think 75% of the tourists there are Indians.
Douchebag collar alert.
I tried to make use of my phone's waterfall setting but my hands were too shaky for me to get an okay shot. Out of the 8 I took, this was the most decent.
This is Niagara at night. It honestly reminds me of M&Ms Easter edition.
We got in upstate New York at around 5pm so there really wasn't that much to do for such a short period of time. The sunset is around 9pm now that it's summer but the temperature still dropped drastically around 6-7pm.

A singer who sounds this good live is worth your time and ears. I've always wondered if the trumpet part was from an instrument or from his mouth... this video gave me an answer. Jason Mraz's discography is art in itself. New York Thursday Part Deux
Now here comes the adventure part.My cellphone is pretty much reliable when it comes to navigation since the US' GMaps is detailed compared to the Philippines'. But here's the downside with it, when you lose signal, you're pretty much on your own. This is how I got lost on my way to the Strand bookstore because subways are so down deep, you won't get a bar of signal at all and in turn, I hopped on the wrong bound train. I started noticing when the streets were getting higher when I'm supposed to go down to 14th from 53rd. I hopped off at 59th hoping I could just change trains but I wasn't entirely sure and I didn't want to end up in The Statue of Liberty so I was on the hunt for signal. I only got it when I went out of the station completely. So that's a waste of $2.50. Anyway, I arrived to Strand and 18 miles of books!
Books here are seriously cheap. I was about to get e.e. cummings' "Collection of erotic poetries" and/or a Haruki Murakami book because they were cheaper for about $5-$10 compared to Barnes&Noble but I'm kind of into ebooks cause I'm in a tight budget. So instead I just got some souvenir stuff
I was heavily contemplating on getting this tote but when I saw the cats, I was a goner. Got my dad a magnet too and a 50c keychain for my collection.
Look at this set of pens. Hahahaha. Imagine someone borrowing it and seeing "Nudist Camp". I also saw a pen that was supposed to last for 6 years.
I left Strand and headed towards getting some chum.
I'm not showing off or anything but it just feels so nice when you get catcalled when you're feeling icky about yourself. I didn't take a shower that day so my hair was oily (hence the beanie) and I was wearing something that made me look as if I'm going to the gym. But as I was on my way to my 3rd itinerary, there was this guy who was hosing down the pedestrian lane and since someone was passing through, he had to stop. I didn't want to hold him up so I kind of hopped around the puddles and smiled at him cause I believed I looked silly doing it but he was all "Take your time girl. You is gorgeous". Then after 3 blocks, another guy who has sitting by his store and talking to a guy said to me "Hey cutie. Whatchadoin today?". I immediately texted my boyfriend and he was all "It's Thirsty Thursday today. That's why". Lol.
Anyway. I usually don't eat in NY but I was seriously craving for curly fries so I went to Papaya King. I thought this store was popular but I was the only person in there. The interiors were cute and random.

2 hotdogs (topping of your choice: coleslaw), curly fries, and papaya drink. For $10. Huh.
I walked to NYU station so I can take the train back to Port Authority and it made me miss my college days.
This is what a usual subway station looks like. Nothing fancy, it even sort of smells.

The temperature for Monday-Wednesday was about 23-26C which was perfect for walking around the city. But the day I decided to go out and about, the temperature dropped to 17C with a side of rain. Eh I was super bored so I braved against the cold with my very cold-inappropriate clothes [white tank top, a $5 cardigan from F21 (I stated the price so you'll have an idea how THIN it is), leggings, pink socks, pink beanie and rubber shoes] and went to my favorite city on earth, New York.First Stop: Museum of Modern Art in 5th Ave - 53rd St. I'm getting acquainted with my streets now. I took the sub from 42nd Port Authority to this and it was a breeze. The subway can get confusing though and not because of the train selections (A,B,C,...,1,2,3...) but because of how vague the signs are on where it's headed. It's not tourist friendly. The most you'd see on signs are "(E) Uptown and Queens / take (4) during midnight". I arrived on MoMA and there was already a line but I think it only took me 10 minutes to reach the front. I so wanted to show my university ID cause the ticket would only cost me $14 but eh, I was sure I'll fall in love with the place so I paid my real due which was $25.
I love this photo because it reminds me of me during this visit. People would usually stand in front of a painting for 10 seconds to take a picture of it then move to the next one. Audio guides are usually 2 minutes long so for 120 seconds, I'll usually just stand there in front gazing and analyzing.
Picasso. This is familiar to be but the explanation was just amazing... notice the difference between the reflection and the seemingly pregnant belly, and the face where half is normal half is painted.

I laughed during the explanation on this one. The irony. Can you spot it?

Photograph section. Went in here cause it's Jonathan preferred form of art.
I looked out and longingly wished I lived in one of these apartments. I don't care if it's small because you get to go to MoMA any day of the week (except Tuesdays, they're closed on Tuesdays).
They have the sickest store in MoMA. Sickest collection of books from coffee table books, how-to, biographies etc. and notebooks too. I got these for me and my boyfriend. (L) Sticker Bomb cause I always wanted to slap on stickers on my laptop. I'm still looking for sticker souvenirs but I haven't found any. (R) A photography book for him.
I finished in MoMA at around 2:00PM. It's best to spend a whole day here or at least 3-4 hours since it's paid (unlike The Met) but aside from that, you have to absorb the amazing art!

Makeup Remover Wipes
I've read somewhere that if you regularly use makeup i.e you can't leave the house without a hint of one, it is best to invest in makeup remover wipes. It's for the days when you get home exhausted and you don't have the energy to wash your face. I have two in my stash right now and I use either of them depending on how heavy my make-up was during that day. I got them both for around $4 however, my Neutrogena one has 25 wipes while the one from Forever21 has 60.Forever21 Honestly, this was an impulse buy. Do you know those containers by the counter that's filled with trinkets, make up bags, nail polish etc.? I saw this one there and I was so surprised by the price and quantity of wipes that I bought it. Little did I know that the pads were small. You'd have to be logical unto when to use to this one because if you use it when your make up is heavy, you'd probably need 2 or 3 more which is not really a bang for the buck. Neutrogena This shit is dabomb. Heck, they even filed a patent for their formula because it's that good. I gave up my waterproof mascara for the falsies one so I can't say if their claim that they can remove "even waterproof mascara" is true but I suppose it is. The towelettes are big and they're pretty moisturized so you can unfold or rotate them to remove even the heaviest of coverage New York City Photodump
I've been to NY thrice already. I commute there every time and it usually just takes 20 minutes (30 with traffic). I love NYC because I can have my favorite kind of solitude there: "alone but not lonely". There are many people to observe and to interact with. Many places to be isolated but count 20 steps and you'll be surrounded by human beings again.
Port Authority escalator. The gate to my NY adventures.
Everything is just so colorful and alive!
This is a weekday afternoon. Imagine this place during the weekends or holidays.
I haven't been inside the New York Public Library but the structure outside kind of reminds me of the Metropolitan Museum
The Rockefeller Center. It was in my bucket list to visit this building. I want to see during winter though, with the huge Christmas tree.
Where the ice skating sink is supposed to be.
Central Park Zoo.
Just lovely.
The aura here at night is just different.
I was alone when I went here but I managed to ask someone to take my photo.
Braved the subway! Loljk. I was with the boyfriend, we figured it out together.
I wanted to take photos of the subway signs cause they fascinate me... maybe some other time
Evil lamp!!
Central Park reservoir?
This was a church beside Guggenheim. It was pretty neat.
It was incidentally closed when we got here. NOTE! GUGGENHEIM IS CLOSED DURING THURSDAYS! Their museum store is open throughout the week though and they have pretty cool stuff (expensive)
Such contrast.
The Metropolitan Museum! My new hangout place.
Within the Ancient Egypt installation. Where modern meets ancient.
Boyf taking photos.
Those buildings must cost billion. The view and the location.
Boyf asked to stand there and pose. I regretfully declined, ugh.
