New York Thursday Part Deux
Now here comes the adventure part.My cellphone is pretty much reliable when it comes to navigation since the US' GMaps is detailed compared to the Philippines'. But here's the downside with it, when you lose signal, you're pretty much on your own. This is how I got lost on my way to the Strand bookstore because subways are so down deep, you won't get a bar of signal at all and in turn, I hopped on the wrong bound train. I started noticing when the streets were getting higher when I'm supposed to go down to 14th from 53rd. I hopped off at 59th hoping I could just change trains but I wasn't entirely sure and I didn't want to end up in The Statue of Liberty so I was on the hunt for signal. I only got it when I went out of the station completely. So that's a waste of $2.50. Anyway, I arrived to Strand and 18 miles of books!
Books here are seriously cheap. I was about to get e.e. cummings' "Collection of erotic poetries" and/or a Haruki Murakami book because they were cheaper for about $5-$10 compared to Barnes&Noble but I'm kind of into ebooks cause I'm in a tight budget. So instead I just got some souvenir stuff
I was heavily contemplating on getting this tote but when I saw the cats, I was a goner. Got my dad a magnet too and a 50c keychain for my collection.
Look at this set of pens. Hahahaha. Imagine someone borrowing it and seeing "Nudist Camp". I also saw a pen that was supposed to last for 6 years.
I left Strand and headed towards getting some chum.
I'm not showing off or anything but it just feels so nice when you get catcalled when you're feeling icky about yourself. I didn't take a shower that day so my hair was oily (hence the beanie) and I was wearing something that made me look as if I'm going to the gym. But as I was on my way to my 3rd itinerary, there was this guy who was hosing down the pedestrian lane and since someone was passing through, he had to stop. I didn't want to hold him up so I kind of hopped around the puddles and smiled at him cause I believed I looked silly doing it but he was all "Take your time girl. You is gorgeous". Then after 3 blocks, another guy who has sitting by his store and talking to a guy said to me "Hey cutie. Whatchadoin today?". I immediately texted my boyfriend and he was all "It's Thirsty Thursday today. That's why". Lol.
Anyway. I usually don't eat in NY but I was seriously craving for curly fries so I went to Papaya King. I thought this store was popular but I was the only person in there. The interiors were cute and random.
Alone
2 hotdogs (topping of your choice: coleslaw), curly fries, and papaya drink. For $10. Huh.
I walked to NYU station so I can take the train back to Port Authority and it made me miss my college days.
This is what a usual subway station looks like. Nothing fancy, it even sort of smells.
